Its interesting to note & fair to mention that the yamaha OW01 had a 750cc 4 cylinder engine, which was virtually a out & out race bike hence the OW01 designation. The Norton was only 588 cc (it was a rotary). It's interesting isn't it that when the Japanese started introducing 500 cc 2 strokes in the MotoGP races against 500cc 4 strokes-apparently that was fair & ok. This come about because the japanese with all their stolen technology (read the book stealing speed), couldn't beat Ago & the MV Agusta, so they decided they would cheat & use 2 stroke technology. Of coarse the 2 stroke is quicker because it fires every 2nd stroke as opposed to the 4 stroke firing every 4th stroke. It took some time even then to manage to beat the MV Agusta but the writing was on the wall. But of coarse it was totally unfair as it meant in reality that they should have being only allowed to run a 350cc 2 strooke against the 500cc 4 stroke. But for some strange reason because it was the japanese they got away with it. So it's interesting that the Norton had to cope with a CC penalty against the Yamaha but it was different whent he boot was on the other foot. The Norton still won. So today in the MotoGP where are the japanese manufcaturers without stolen technology-they are nothing. I think they struggle to get in the top 10. It's gotten so bad both Kawasaki & Suzuki have pulled out-they don't even participate any more. Repsol Honda have pulled the plug on sponsorship for the Honda racing team in motogp simply because the results aren't their. Now the governing body has granted all sorts of ridiculous concessions to help the remaining japanese manufacturers, which I think is totally wrong. Everyone should be on a level playing field & all teams/ manufacturers treated the same & I think it's totally ridiculous. Why should Ducati or Aprilia or KTM share their data with anybody else. That's their own personal information. They've had to work hard to get where they are, so why should they have to give that information away to a competitor-especially the japanese who are the biggest cheats in the business. I think it's complete madness.
